Custom Guitars

My interest in building a guitar started around 2004.  After about a year of thinking of building a guitar, I started my first guitar the latter part of 2005.  It took me several months to build  the first one.  I spent about three months building various gigs for different parts of the guitar.  I also bought several special tools.

My first guitar was built form Walnut wood, which I found in my Dad's barn.  Walnut makes a good guitar, but I recommend getting all wood supplies from a good Luthier supplier.  Different back and side woods and especially top wood has a lot to do with the sound as well as construction of the guitar.  The most common wood for back and sides is Mahogany and Rosewood, and for the top is Sitka and Adirondack Spruce.

I have always enjoyed working with wood.  I have built all kinds of furniture over the years.  My Dad was a great Woodworker.  He built Grandfather clocks and Roll-top desks. My interest in music goes way back to my teenage years.  I use to love the 50's Rock n Roll and also country music.  I tend to like Bluegrass better than I use to.  In North East Tennessee where I live and Western North Carolina and Southeast Virginia, bluegrass is very popular.

My guitars are built for Bluegrass picking.  I try to make them light and LOUD.  Most of my guitars have been bought by local pickers.  I hope to promote my guitars to a wider base of players through Mr. Kody Norris, a local bluegrass picker, singer and entertainer from my home town, whom I have known since he was a small kid.  Kody has been picking and singing since he was old enough to walk.  Kody travels all over the country performing.  Kody will be playing one of my guitars which I custom built for him.
